The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling team made the tip north and east on Saturday to compete in the Doc Carr Duals at New Hampton High School. Teams competing included Albert Lea Area from Minnesota, South Winneshiek and New Hampton/Turkey Valley.
The Cowboys day started with Albert Lea Area, as CGD would defeat the out-of-staters 39-32. Daniel Chavez picked up the opening fall at 285, before Albert Lea would pick up 3 falls in a row, before Ethan Traub returned the favor at 120 pounds. Albert Lea led 27-15, before CGD reeled off 4 straight wins, including falls from the Seaba brothers, to take a 36-27 lead. Erick Perez closed the dual out with a 9-4 decision at 220 pounds to secure the win.
CGD would then face off with South Winneshiek in another tightly contested dual. The Cowboys would open by picking up wins at 3 of their first 4 weights, followed up with Jackson Beisel and Cale Kirstein falls at 138 and 145 to take a 30-11 lead. Following a major decision loss at 152, The Seaba Brothers picked up a fall and a decision to put the Cowboys up 39-15. The Warriors would end the match with 4 straight wins, but it was not enough as CGD picked up a 39-34 win.
The Cowboys final dual came against the hosts in New Hampton/Turkey Valley, which began with a Rigo Bobadilla win at 113 pounds. Following a loss at 120 pounds, CGD picked up wins from Ethan Traub, Caleb Seaba, Jackson Beisel and Cale Kirstein to go up 19-6. NH/TV would pick up wins at 152 and 170, with a Garrett Seaba major decision sandwiched in the middle at 160 pounds, before NH/TV took 3 of the final 5 matches. However, it would not be enough as CGD took home a 35-30 win, and finished the day 3-0.
Cowboys wrestling is back in action on Tuesday, as they partake in a Wright County triangular with Eagle Grove and Belmond-Klemme.
