The Webster City Lynx returned to North Central Conference action on Friday night, as they hosted the Lions of Clear Lake. The Clear Lake girls entered 5-1, ranked #7 in Class 3A, while the Clear Lake boys entered 4-2, ranked #7 in Class 2A.
The night began with the girls matchup, as Webster City looked to extend their 2-game winning streak, but faced a daunting task in the Lions. After leading 7-4 at one point in the first, Clear Lake went on a 29-7 run to take a 33-14 halftime lead. The Lions press continued to suffocate the Lynx, forcing turnovers and fast break points, en route to a 63-24 win.
Webster City’s boys took the floor soon following, against a Clear Lake team that was looking to put themselves back in the conference title race following two, mid-December losses to CGD and Iowa Falls-Alden. Clear Lake managed to keep the Lynx at arms length for the first half, before Webster City cut it to 8 by the end of the third. In the 4th, the Lynx trailed by as much as 15, but managed to cut the deficit to 8, but no further than that in a 58-50 loss.
Webster City returns to action on Tuesday, when they host a non-conference matchup against Southeast Valley.
