The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling team made the trip to Ames on Saturday, to compete in the Jack Mendenhall Invitational at Ames High School. Other teams competing included Indianola, Ankeny, Fort Dodge, Papillion-La Vista (NE), Valley, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Boone, Omaha Skutt Catholic, Spencer, Iowa City High, Carroll, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Ballard, the host Little Cyclones, Pocahontas Area, and Perry.
The top Cowboy wrestler on the day was Garrett Seaba, who advanced to the championship match at 160 pounds, where he was defeated by Papillion-La Vista’s Nick Hamilton in a 13-6 decision. Seaba won 3 matches by fall, major decision and decision. The next highest finisher was brother Mack Seaba at 170 pounds, who finished 5th and went 3-2 on the day.
Daniel Chavez finished 6th at 285 pounds, finishing 2-3 on the day, while Nash Linenmann placed 7th at 182 pounds, where he finished the day 2-1. Rigo Bobadilla and Caleb Seaba both placed 8th at 113 pounds and 132 pounds respectively, with Bobadilla finishing 2-2, while Seaba finished 2-3. Dietrich Woodley, Jackson Beisel and Cale Kirsetin all competed, but did not place for the Cowboys, who finished with 64 points.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to the mats on Thursday, when they face Perry and Saydel in a triangular.
