The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to Heart of Iowa action on Friday night, as they hosted the Mustangs of Prairie City-Monroe. The PCM girls entered with a 3-8 record, while the PCM boys entered with a 6-6 record.
Mark Henderson’s girls squad used a big 1st quarter and 3rd quarter to propel his Hawks to a 55-31 victory. The Hawks scored 19 in the opening frame, and 22 in the 3rd quarter, which were the driving factor in the win. South Hamilton’s defense held PCM’s offense to quarter point totals of 4-7-7-13.
The South Hamilton boys took the floor afterwards, as the Hawks looked to continue their improved play following a close loss to Southeast Valley. However, PCM used a massive 1st half to bury the Hawks in a 55-22 win. The Mustangs leading scorers of Durant Van Dyke and Carson Vandelune combined for 31 of the Mustangs 55, as South Hamilton only scored double-digit points in the 3rd quarter.
Next action for the Hawks will be on Friday, when travel to Perry to take on the Bluejays.
