Webster City basketball hosts Clear Lake on Friday

The Webster City basketball teams will be back in action on Friday night, as they host the Lions of Clear Lake at Webster City High School. The Clear Lake girls are 5-1 and ranked #7 in Class 3A, while the Clear Lake boys are 4-2 and ranked #7 in Class 2A.

The night begins with the girls matchup, as Webster City enters riding a two-game winning streak, but will face a daunting task against the high-powered Lions. Clear Lake has been led by the scoring of senior Jaden Ainsley, who averages nearly 20 PPG, while shooting 50% from the field. Sophomore Xada Johnson has had a breakout season as well, averaging nearly 10 points and 9 rebounds per contest as well. The Lynx look to continue to force turnovers as they did against St. Edmond and Greene County.

The boys game follows around 7:30, as the Lynx boys face one of their toughest conference challenges of the season as they take on the offensive-minded Lions. Clear Lake looks to get star Carson Toebe back from an injury that kept him out of the Lions loss to Iowa Falls-Alden. Toebe averages 17.5 PPG, while also leading the team in rebounding with just over 6.5 RPG. Travaughn Luyobya continues to be a statsheet-stuffer for the Lions, ranking in the top 3 in points, rebounds and assists. Webster City looks to ride the hot shooting of Jamie Grossoehme and Ty McKinney.

Tipoff for the girls is slated for 6:15 at Webster City High School, and the boys will follow.
