The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams return to action on Friday night, as they host the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference play. The HD-CAL girls are 7-3 to start 2022, while the HD-CAL boys currently sit at 4-4.
HD-CAL’s girls come in behind the strong play of seniors Avery Hanson and Lauren Meader, the only two Bulldogs to average in double figures. Hanson leads the team in points and rebounds, averaging 15 points and nearly 8 rebounds per contest. Meader is second on the team in scoring, averaging nearly 13 PPG, while averaging just over 3.5 APG as well. Lexie Lane has been the outstanding scorer for CGD this season, averaging 17 PPG.
The boys game follows with a Cowboys team that is off to their best start in well-over a half-century, as they sit at 7-0. Jaxon Carpenter continues his breakout senior season, sitting in the top 3 on the team in points, rebounds and assists, while also sitting as the 4th-leading scorer in the conference at 17.1 PPG. Connor State currently averages just under 17 PPG. HD-CAL has been led by the play of sophomore Scott Harr, who is currently averaging a double-double, while senior Cal Heeren currently shoots 35% from three-point range.
