The Webster City Lynx returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Greene County Rams in a non-conference doubleheader at Webster City High. The Rams girls entered with a 1-7 record, while the Greene County boys entered with a 4-4 record.
The Lynx girls blitzed the Rams from the start, as the Webster City press continued to force turnover after turnover against Greene County. Webster City got out to a 14-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, extended to 22-11 at halftime. The 3rd quarter saw the Lynx begin to dominate, as they had collected nearly 30 steals in the game, at the end of the period, leading 39-15, before cruising to a 50-21 win. Sophomore Alley Odland set a new school record in steals with 13, crushing the previous record held by 4 other players. Odland also tallied 19 points.
Webster City’s boys followed up their hot shooting performances before winter break, with another to start the 2nd half of the season against Greene County. The Lynx got out to a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter, before dominating the 2nd quarter, en route to a 28-8 halftime lead. Greene County managed to get up off the mat, cutting it to 15 at one point, before the scalding hot shooting of Jamie Grossoehme was too much for the Rams to handle, as Webster City picked up a 58-40 win. Grossoehme finished with 26 points and 7, three-pointers.
Next action for Webster City will be on Friday, when they host the Clear Lake Lions.
