The South Hamilton basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-conference action. The Jaguar girls entered with a record of 3-6, while the Jaguar boys entered with a record of 5-3.
Defense ruled the early portion of the girls game as the Hawks led 13-7 after the first, before creating a little more separation by halftime, with the score 29-17. South Hamilton’s offense then began to pick up steam, leading 45-27 after three, before Hallee Feaker took over in the 4th quarter to put the game away for good. Feaker scored 10 of her 21 points in the final frame as South Hamilton moved to 8-3 with a 69-48 win. Sophomore Makena Galetich finished with 19 for South Hamilton as well.
The boys game featured defense and lots of it, as both sides struggled to consistently score. After holding a 15-6 lead at the end of the first, Southeast Valley saw its lead continuously shrinking thanks to effort plays from South Hamilton, and the Jags only led 23-19 at halftime. The Hawks refused to go away, as shots began to fall for Matt Juber’s squad, who entered the 4th quarter in a 34-34 tie. The effort did not relent in the 4th, unfortunately, Southeast Valley was able to knock down a shot or two more than the Hawks, as the Jaguars came away with a 45-40 win. Tre Fisher led Southeast Valley with 11, as Teegan Trask and Nic Flaugh also had 11 for South Hamilton.
Next action for the South Hamilton squads will be on Friday, when they return to Heart of Iowa play against Prairie City-Monroe at home.
