Eagle Grove swept in West-Bend Mallard doubleheader, faces North Union tonight

The Eagle Grove basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, when they hosted the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard in an early January non-conference matchup. The Wolverines got the best of the Eagles in the doubleheader, with the Eagle Grove girls falling 70-42, and the Eagle Grove boys falling 55-36.

A return to Top of Iowa West play marks tonight’s matchup as the Eagles head north to face off with the Warriors of North Union in Armstrong. The Warrior women enter Tuesday’s game 6-2, with their only losses to Class 3A #10 Estherville-Lincoln Central and Class 1A #2 Algona Bishop Garrigan. The Warriors have been led by senior Sam Nielsen, who leads the team in scoring and rebounding on the season with 9 PPG and nearly 7 RPG.

The boys game follows with a matchup of the 1-win Eagles against a 5-3 North Union squad. The Warriors two losses in conference play came at the hands of Class 1A #7 Lake Mills and Forest City. The Warriors are led by senior Nick Schiltz, who is averaging 12 PPG, while shooting just over 44% from the field, including 28% from three-point range.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM at North Union High School in Armstrong.
