The Webster City Lynx closed out the 2021 portion of their schedule on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Gaels of Fort Dodge, St. Edmond. The Gaels women entered with an 0-6 mark, while Gaels men entered with a record of 3-3 on the season.
The first half was a slow one for both sides, as St. Edmond held an 11-10 halftime lead over the Lynx, as the Gaels held an 11-4 at the end of the first quarter. From there, Webster City took over, as they led 19-16 at the end of the 3rd, before blowing the doors open in the 4th, en route to a 45-24 win. Livia Kasch led all scorers with 15 points, while Kelly Stoakes finished with 10 points.
Webster City’s boys then took the floor to face off with the Gaels, and were met with more of a challenge than initially thought, as St. Edmond controlled the tempo through 3 quarters, with the Lynx trailing by as much as 13 in the 2nd half. However, hot shooting put the Lynx back in it, as big 4th quarters from Jamie Grossoehme, Briar Klaver and Jayce Neuroth surged the Lynx back in it. In the closing seconds, it was Jamin Stuhr who would deliver the decisive blow, following a missed shot with a layup and a foul with 3 seconds left to give Webster City a win in a 56-54 instant classic.
Webster City returns to action following winter break against the Greene County Rams on January 4th.
