The Eagle Grove basketball teams took the floor one final time in 2021, as they hosted the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in Top of Iowa play on Tuesday night. The Cardinal girls entered with a 4-4 record, while the Cardinal boys entered with a 5-2 record.
GHV used a stifling defense to keep the Eagle Grove girls at bay throughout the entirety of the game, as the Cardinals held a 34-4 halftime lead over the Eagles, as they kept their foot on the gas en route to a 52-7 win over the Eagles. GHV seniors Chloe Frank and Liz Richardson led the way, scoring 13 points a piece on Tuesday.
The boys game showcased a neck-and-neck contests in the first half, as Jordan Peterson’s Eagles continue to show improvements as the season progresses. The Eagles trailed 13-4 after the 1st, but fought back to tie the game at 18 going into halftime. However, GHV was able to put their foot on the gas in 2nd half, picking up a 53-33 win over the Eagles. GHV Junior Drew Britson finished with 18 points, as Nathan Roberts finished with 14 for the Cardinals.
The Eagle Grove squads return to action following winter break, as they open with the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard on January 3rd.
