The Webster City basketball teams hit the road on Friday night and made the trip up Highway 17 to Algona to face off with the Bulldogs. The Algona girls entered with a 1-4 record, while the Algona boys entered with a 2-3 record on the season.
Webster City’s girls, still in search of win #1 on the season, appeared up to the task in the first quarter, only trailing 11-10 to the Bulldogs. However, a scoreless 2nd quarter put the Lynx down 21-10 at halftime and weren’t able to muster enough offense for a comeback, as Algona took home a 49-27 win. Kelly Stoakes and Livia Kasch had 7 points each of the Lynx, while Casey VanOtterloo led the Bulldogs with 10.
The Lynx boys took the floor looking to move above .500 for the season as they faced an up-and-down Algona team. What the Lynx got were a couple of career nights from a pair of its guards. Junior guard Ty McKinney notched a career-high with 31 points, shooting over 75% from the field on the night. Junior Jamie Grossoehme poured another 21 points, including going 6-for-6 from three-point range, as the Lynx routed the Bulldogs 85-67.
Webster City rounds out the 2021 portion of their schedule on Tuesday, as they host Fort Dodge, St. Edmond at Webster City High.
