South Hamilton’s basketball teams made the short trip across the Hamilton-Story County Line on Friday night to face off with long time Heart of Iowa rival, Roland-Story in Story City. The Norsemen girls entered ranked #11 in Class 3A with a 4-2 record, while the Norsemen boys entered as the lone undefeated team remaining in the Heart of Iowa.
The Hawks would have to overcome injury as 2nd-leading scorer Hallee Feaker missed the game due to a minor injury. South Hamilton would show great fight without their star two-guard as the Hawks only trailed the 11th-ranked Norsemen, 15-14 after the first quarter. Roland-Story used a late 2nd quarter run to give themselves a 32-23 halftime lead. Makenna Galetich made sure the Hawks would not go quietly, finishing with a team-high 24 points, including shooting 11-for-11 from the free throw line, but Roland-Story would hold for a 62-50 win.
South Hamilton’s boys followed against an undefeated Norsemen team, on the fringe of Class 2A rankings coming into Friday night. Roland-Story proved their worth, dominating the Hawks from the get go, as they held a 42-5 halftime lead. South Hamilton’s offense would gain some traction in the 2nd half, but it was far too late as the Norsemen scored a 71-32 win over their border-county rival. Isaiah Naylor led the Norsemen with 23 points and 5, three-pointers.
South Hamilton is back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to State Center to face off with the West Marshall Trojans.
