The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams made the trip east to face off with the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday night. The Cadet girls entered with a 1-4 record, while the IFA boys entered with a record of 5-2 on the young season.
The battle of the CGD and IFA girls was a close one for the first 16 minutes, as Iowa Falls-Alden held a slight halftime lead of 20-18. However, the Cadets offense caught fire in the second half, nearly doubling their first half output en route to a 58-31 win. Abby Ites had 16 points for IFA, while Ella Sharar had 14 points for the Cadets.
A matchup of two of the top teams in the North Central Conference gave the boys game some extra energy, as CGD looked to remain undefeated on the season, while Iowa Falls-Alden looked to prime their position in the conference race. CGD only held a 10-4 lead after the first quarter, but a 22-point 2nd quarter gave the Cowboys a 32-16 halftime lead. The Cowboys continued to grind out buckets en route to a 55-42 win. Connor State led all scorers with 18 points, while Jaxon Carpenter finished with 13 points.
Next action for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will be on Tuesday night when they travel to Algona to take on the Bulldogs.
