The South Hamilton Hawks wrestling team hosted their first home wrestling action of the season, as they welcomed wrestlers from West Marshall, Collins-Maxwell and Des Moines North-Hoover to the mats on Jim Marsh Court.
South Hamilton began the evening with a matchup against conference rival West Marshall. The Trojans dominated from the start, with the only points for the Hawks coming courtesy of Keyton Remsburg pin at 132 pounds, as West Marshall took home a 78-6 win over the Hawks. Brent Greenfield, ranked #9 in Class 1A at 182 pounds, suffered his first loss of the season to West Marshall’s Austin Pfantz.
The Hawks rebounded with a 42-24 win over Collins-Maxwell, as the premier match of the night pitted the 9th-ranked Brent Greenfield against #6 Brody Sampson at 182 pounds. Greenfield held a 14-11 advantage in the 2nd period, before Sampson was dropped from the match due to injury, giving the Hawks 6-team points. Braden Young, Keyton Remsburg, Alan Gandara and Graham Peters also picked up falls for the Hawks.
The night concluded with South Hamilton facing off with the Polar Bears of Des Moines North-Hoover. The dual began at 120 pounds, and after a South Hamilton forfeit, Keyton Remsburg picked up his 3rd fall of the night over Mu She in less than a minute. Forfeits put the Hawks behind the 8-ball, and wins by the Polar Bears Max Beanga and Jake Rattray at 138 pounds and 152 pounds set the Hawks too far behind for a comeback. Brent Greenfield, Graham Peters, Adley Peters and Holden Klein would still pick pins in the Hawks 48-36 loss.
South Hamilton returns to action on Saturday, where they will compete in the Jim Kinyon Norsemen Invitational at Roland-Story High School.
