Sprague and Woodle honored at Governor’s Lifesaving Award ceremony.

A ceremony in Des Moines was held Thursday morning to recognize those who have helped save lives in the state over the past year. The 2020-21 Governor’s Lifesaving Awards and Sullivan Brothers Awards honored 35 individuals in a ceremony at the capital. Two individuals from our KQWC-KZWC listening area were recognized. Adam Woodle was honored with Lifesaving with Valor award and Lt. David Sprague of the Jewell Fire Department received the Sullivan Brothers Award of Valor. The two men helped rescue one of the five members of the Iowa State University Crew Club from Little Wall Lake south of Jewell on March 28,2021. Two other members were rescued and the other two drowned in the kayak accident in the cold waters of the lake.
