Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will make the trip north on I-35 on Tuesday night to face of with the Clear Lake Lions at Clear Lake High School. The Lions girls enter with a 2-1 record and ranked #8 in Class 3A, the Lions boys enter with a 3-0 record, ranked #6 in Class 3A.
The girls tip off at 6 PM as the Cowgirls looks to get an early leg up in the North Central Conference race. The Lions are led by senior Jaden Ainley, who comes in averaging 18.3 PPG. Sophomore Xada Johnson enters averaging 11 PPG and just over 9 RPG, while Emily Theiss averages 10.3 PPG, along with 5 RPG and just under 5 APG. The Lions lone loss on the season came at the hands of defending Class 3A State Champions, Ballard.
The boys take the floor following, and gives a matchup of the 6th-ranked Lions, and a Cowboys team that is receiving votes in the most recent Iowa High School Basketball AP Poll. The Lions are led by senior guard Carson Toebe, as the senior enters averaging 20 PPG, while shooting nearly 46% from 3 on the season. Toebe also averages 6.7 RPG and 2 APG. Freshman Thomas Meyer has made an immediate impact as well, averaging 12 PPG, as junior point guard Travaughn Luyobya continues to stuff the stat sheet.
