Following a thrashing at the hands of the Ballard Bombers, the Webster City Lynx hit the road to Grinnell on Saturday to partake in the Grinnell Tiger Duals at Grinnell High School. Other teams competing included Bondurant-Farrar, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Mount Pleasant, East Marshall and the host Tigers.
The Lynx began their day with a 40-31 win over Cedar Rapids Prairie, a match where Cam Phetxoumphone picked up a pin of Alex Bumba, Carson Doolittle suffered his first loss of the year to 3A #2 Blake Gioimo and wrestlers such as Austin Mason, Jordan Vankham and Brady Jessen picked up bounce back wins following losses against Ballard. Addison Scott sealed the win with a fall over Riley Berk at 106 pounds.
Webster City went on to dominate Grinnell in their 2nd dual of the day, by a score of 62-15, before facing off with a very talented Bondurant-Farrar squad, ranked #8 in 3A. The Lynx etched out a 38-34 win over the Bluejays, even with ranked wrestlers such as CJ Hisler and Carson Doolittle losing their matches. Four consecutive pins from the Lynx, courtesy of Jordan Vankham, Austin Mason, Brady Jessen and Evan Estlund, put the Lynx up 24-17. Cam Phetxoumphone’s tech fall over Cody Hay at 120 pounds sealed the win for the Lynx.
Webster City would then dominate against Mount Pleasant and East Marshall, to finish the day 5-0 and crowned champions of the Tiger Duals. Cam Phetxoumphone, Jordan Vankham, Austin Mason, Brady Jessen and Jaxon Cherry all finished the day 5-0, while CJ Hisler and Landon Griffin finished their day at 4-1.
Lynx Wrestling returns to action on Thursday in a triangular with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Clear Lake, at Clear Lake High School.
