The South Hamilton basketball teams were the lone area team to host their originally scheduled game on Friday, as winter weather blasted its way through Northern Iowa. The Hawks wound up splitting their doubleheader against Heart of Iowa foe, Saydel.
Mark Henderson’s girls squad jumped all over the Eagles from the onset as South Hamilton jumped out to a 20-1 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was much as the same, as the Eagles only managed to score 7 points in the frame, as South Hamilton held a 46-8 halftime lead. Reserves took over from there for the Hawks, leading South Hamilton to a 72-18 win. Hallee Feaker fell one steal shy of a triple double, with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 9 steals. Makenna Galetich finished with 17 points.
The boys then took to the court, in a game that wound up as a gritty contest. South Hamilton held a 15-9 lead at the end of the 1st, but a mere 4-point 2nd quarter, had the scored tied at 19 at halftime. The Hawks and Eagles traded blows back and forth, before Saydel became the last ones standing in a 46-43 upset. Camden Lo led Saydel with 16 points, while Shyne Lo had 10 points.
South Hamilton will be back in action on Tuesday night, as they host the Nevada Cubs in Jewell.
