Following the postponement of their doubleheader on Friday, CGD and Webster City met at Webster City High on Saturday afternoon for the first meeting between the two North Central Conference foes in the 2021-22 season. It was a meeting that was swept by Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
The girls kicked off the evening with a game that went down to the wire, as a blocked shot at the horn preserved a 41-40 win for the Cowgirls. Webster City was led by 9 points from Kelly Stoakes and 7 points from Livia Kasch.
The boys tipped things off around 6:30 on Saturday night, and the theme was similar to the girls as the defenses ruled the court. Webster City was able to fight off the high-powered Cowboys in the first half, holding a 27-24 halftime lead over the Lynx. However, the Cowboy offense heated up in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Lynx 18-7, and an evenly matched 4th quarter gave CGD a 53-42 win. Connor State led all scorers with 17 points, while Jaxon Carpenter and Coady Olson added double-digits for the Cowboys as well. Jamin Stuhr led Webster City scorers with 11 points.
Next action for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will be Tuesday night, when the Cowboys travel to Clear Lake to take on the Lions, ranked #6 in Class 3A. The Lynx will also return to action on Tuesday, as they face off with Hampton-Dumont-CAL in Hampton.
