Early pins doom Webster City wrestling against Ballard, 48-23

The Webster City wrestling team held their first home meet of the season, as they hosted the Ballard Bombers for a dual on Thursday. Webster City entered with a record of 2-0, while the Bombers entered with a record of 1-1.

The dual started at 126 pounds, where Jack Shepherd defeated the Lynx’s Tristan Mason 1-0, with the lone point coming via technical violation. The Bombers would then pick up three pins in a row at 132, 138 and 145 from Luke Hartsook, Daniel Hyman and Thomsen Harrison, respectively. The Bombers led 21-0 after 4 weights.

Ballard would extend its lead again after a Rhett Hedrick decision over Austin Mason at 152 pounds, and was followed by a Blake Fleischmann pin over Brady Jessen, that put Ballard up 30-0. Webster City would finally get on the board at 170 pounds, as Evan Estlund picked up the fall on Gunnar Peterson to cut the score to 30-6. The tide turned back to the Bombers quickly as Gabe Christensen picked up the fall over Skyler Scott at 182 pounds, followed by the Lynx’s CJ Hisler picking up a fall at 195 pounds in his season debut.

At 220 pounds, Nick Wacha picked up the fall over Jaxon Cherry, while Kale Krogh picked up an overtime decision against Landon Griffin at 285 pounds. Ballard’s Jace Rhiner took home a 3-2 decision over Addison Scott, before a Carson Doolittle pin at 113 pounds, and a tech fall courtesy of Cam Phetxoumphone at 120, finalized at 48-23 win for the Bombers.

Webster City will return to action on Saturday for the Grinnell Tiger Duals, beginning at 10 AM at Grinnell High School.
