The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball team is back in action on Friday night, as they host the Gaels of Fort Dodge, St. Edmond at CGD High School in Clarion. The Cowgirls enter with a 2-0 record, while the Cowboys enter with a 1-0 record.
The St. Edmond girls lost their season-opener to the Perry Bluejays by a score of 41-22, in which the Gaels leading scorer, Silvia Heldorfer, only scored 5 points. It’s a St. Edmond’s team that lost its leading scorer from last season in Leah Neverman, still returns top scorers such as Gracie Harvey, Mya McClain and Kierstin Clark. The Cowgirls enter with a 2-0 record following a dominating victory over Eagle Grove on Monday, led by 18 points from Kennedy Trca in her first varsity start.
On the boys side, St. Edmond enters with a 1-0 record, following a season-opening 67-42 win over Algona Bishop Garrigan. Hayden Mayer was the leading scorer for the Gaels with 20 points, with Caleb Schaefer and Noah Simpson adding 10 points each, as the Gaels shot 8/18 from 3-point range against Bishop Garrigan. CGD enters off the heels of their season-opening win over Eagle Grove, where Jaxon Carpenter led the way with 23 points.
The girls are slated to tipoff at 6 PM, with the boys to follow.
