Following losses to county-rival Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Monday night, the Eagle Grove Eagles hit the road for the first time in 2021-22 as they made the trek north to face off with the Indians of Forest City. Tuesday was the season-opener for the Forest City boys, and the conference-opener for the Forest City girls.
The girls game kicked off with a sluggish start, with Forest City leading only 3-2 late in the 1st quarter, before a defensive switch to a press blew the game open for the Indians, as they led 31-4 at halftime. Forest City would carry on for a 52-18 win over the Eagles, behind 17 points from Shae Dillavou. Nadia Kaiser led Eagle Grove in scoring with 12 points.
The boys game then followed, and showcased a surprising 1st half, as Eagle Grove ran stride-for-stride with Forest City in the first half. Drake Canavan and Jordan Morris combined for 6, three-pointers in the first half, as Eagle Grove led at halftime 27-25. The Indians then ratcheted up the defensive intensity and took over in the 2nd half, en route to a 63-39 win over Eagle Grove. Drake Canavan led all scorers with 17 points, while Forest City was led in scoring with 14 points from Carter Bruckoff and Andrew Snyder.
Next action for Eagle Grove will be on Friday, when they host the Eagles of West Hancock at Eagle Grove Elementary school.
