A Wright County showdown tipped off the beginning of the season for rivals Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove on Monday night at Eagle Grove Elementary school. The former conference foes met for the first time this season, and will meet again in January in Clarion.
The CGD Cowgirls picked up a win in the first game of the doubleheader by a final of 53-27. Kennedy Trca led all scorers with 18 points in her first varsity start, while Lexie Lane finished with 12 points, following a 36-point performance against Southeast Valley. Nadia Kaiser led Eagle Grove scorers with 9 points.
The boys took the court for the first time in 2021-22 for both sides, as CGD looked to extended its success against Eagle Grove since the turn of the century, as they hold a 23-14 series lead since 2000. The Cowboys veteran lineup was too much for the youth of Eagle Grove, as CGD prevailed in a 61-28 win over the Eagles. Jaxon Carpenter led all scorers with 23 points, while All-Conference center Connor State finished with 14 points. Drake Canavan led Eagle Grove scorers with 11 points.
