The South Hamilton girls basketball team hosted its season-opener on Tuesday night, as the Hawks welcomed in the Spartans of Collins-Maxwell. Collins-Maxwell finished 2020-21 with a 22-2 record and one game short of the Class 1A State Tournament and defeated South Hamilton 59-34. The Hawks flipped the script on Tuesday night, with a dominating 59-23 win.
The Hawks exploded out of the gate by turning defense into offense en route to a 20-6 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. South Hamilton continued to ratchet up the intensity defensively, forcing turnover after turnover, which kept the Spartans far behind and minimize any chance they had at a comeback.
South Hamilton was led in scoring by sophomore Makenna Galetich, who led all scorers with 15 points, while also contributing 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Halee Feaker finished with 14 points, along with 3 rebounds, 4 assists and a game-high 7 steals. Caleigh Hewitt was the third South Hamilton Hawk to reach double figures, with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Next action for South Hamilton will be on Tuesday, November 30th, when the Hawks travel west to Rockwell City and face South Central Calhoun in the first boys/girls doubleheader of the season. Girls tipoff is slated for 7 PM.
