The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls basketball team will open its regular season on Monday, as they host the Jaguars of Southeast Valley in Clarion. The Cowgirls opened their season last year with a win over the Jaguars in Gowrie.
The Jaguars being the 2021-22 season trying to replace some key cogs from a team that finished 10-12 a season ago. Southeast Valley loses their top 2 scorers from last season, with Emily Hemmestad and Chloe Hicks gone from graduation, the two averaged over 21 PPG last season. Southeast Valley does return junior Madison Lane, who averaged just under 7 PPG and shot 41% from 3-point land in 2020-21. The Jaguars will look for young players such as sophomores Kenna Scott and Breck Mills to fill some key roles, while senior Haylee Welter will step into a leadership role.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will face the task of overhauling a rotation from last season that was very senior-heavy. The lone returning starter is junior Lexie Lane, who started over half the season in 2020-21, and averaged 7 PPG. The Cowgirls will look for upperclassmen such as Nikki Kapka, Summer Traub, Olyvia Olson and others to step into leading and scoring roles for the 2020-21 season.
Tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School
