Much like on the volleyball floor, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Girls Basketball Team is mass replacing its production on the basketball court from a year ago. The Cowgirls senior-heavy team finished 17-5 in 2020-21, but were upset by Forest City in the 1st round of the Class 3A Regionals.
Elizabeth Ennis’s squad only returns 8.5 points of a team that averaged 51.2 points per game last season. The only returner with major minutes is junior Lexie Lane, who started a little more than half the season and averaged 7 points per game, as well as 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and a steal and a half per contest. Delia Swanson, Nikki Kapka, Summer Traub, Olyvia Olson, Kaylie Dow and and Sawyer Morrical were on the roster last season, but received very little playing time.
Those that departed last year’s team include leading scorer Raven Kinnetz, who averaged 14.6 points per games, with 3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and a whopping 4.3 steals per contest. Morgan Middleton anchored down the paint, averaging just under 11 points per game and 6.4 rebounds, 2 assists, and nearly a block per game. The Cowgirls also graduate Jadyn Jondle, who average 9.2 points per game, and other contributors in Emma Conlon, Kendall Lienemann and Emma Keller.
The Cowgirls open their season with a non-conference matchup on Monday, November 22nd, against the Jaguars of Southeast Valley.
