The South Hamilton girls basketball record indicated that it was an up and down year for them in 2020-21, but with 10 wins, it tied them for the most wins in a season for the program since 2011. The once powerful program had fallen on hard times for most of the previous decade, but the start to a new one perhaps provides a new era of South Hamilton girls basketball.
The Hawks will have a rising star in sophomore Makenna Galetich, who averaged 9.8 points per game as a freshman, as well as 4 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. She joins key returnees in senior Caleigh Hewitt, who averaged 7.5 points per game last season, and Mackenzy Grady, who averaged 6.1 points per game in 2020-21. Some other faces who will see expanded roles include juniors Zoey Dunn and Hallee Feaker, and sophomore Ashlyn Erickson.
South Hamilton only loses one key contributor from last year’s squad in Emma Lewis, who averaged 5.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in 2020-21. The top competition for the Hawks will include Roland-Story, who returns their top 2 scorers from last season, Nevada and West Marshall.
The South Hamilton girls open their season with a home date with the Spartans of Collins-Maxwell, tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
