The 9th-ranked Iowa women’s basketball team took on the Samford Bulldogs at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Tuesday night, and came away with a 91-54 win over the defending Southern Conference regular season champions. The game was the first action for Samford this season.
Iowa was led in scoring by Monika Czinano, who finished with 20 points on 8-11 shooting. Star guard Caitlin Clark only managed 19 points, but still managed to knock down a trio of three-pointers in the win. Iowa State-transfer Kylie Feuerbach contributed 9 points off the bench, while McKenna Warnock finished with 8 points.
Samford was lead in scoring by a strong performance from preseason SoCon Player of the Year Andrea Cournoyer, who notched 15 points off of 5, three-pointers. Fellow guard Shauntai Battle added 9 points, behind 2, three-pointers as well.
Next action for Iowa will be on Sunday, when they will travel north on I-380 to take on in-state rival UNI at the McLeod Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 PM.
