Iowa Basketball sweeps Carver-Hawkeye doubleheader Tuesday night

The Iowa Hawkeyes basketball teams hosted a rare doubleheader on Tuesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Iowa women tipped off against New Hampshire at 6 PM, followed by the Iowa men facing Longwood at 9 PM. The night resulted in a clean sweep for the Black and Gold.

Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes lead wire-to-wire against the Wildcats from the American East Conference in a 93-50 win. Caitlin Clark put together another star performance, scoring 26 points on just 10 shots, as well as contributing 8 rebounds and 6 assists, also going a perfect 11-for-11 at the free throw line. Monika Czinano and McKenna Warnock were the two other Hawkeye starters in double figures, as well as backup guard Tomi Taiwo.

New Hampshire had solid performances from guards Amanda Torres and Sophia Widmeyer. Both Torres and Widmeyer contributed 13 points a piece, as Widmeyer knocked down a trio of threes in the game. New Hampshire only shot 29% from the field, as opposed to Iowa’s 52% field goal percentage.

For Fran McCaffery’s men’s team, Tuesday marked a new era in Iowa basketball, one without Luka Garza and Joe Wieskamp, and his Hawkeyes made the most of it in a 106-73 win over the Longwood Lancers. Keegan Murray took the reigns as the Hawkeyes star player and ran with it, scoring a game-high 24 points, as well as grabbing 8 rebounds. Jordan Bohannon had a big night from beyond the arc, pouring in 6 three-pointers. Kris Murray also added 16 points off the bench.

The Lancers had strong performances from starters Isaiah Wilkins and Justin Hill. Wilkins scored a team-high 19 points, as well as grabbing 8 rebounds. Justin Hill added 10 points and 6 assists as well. Leslie Nkereuwem added 17 points off the bench as well.

Next action for the Iowa women will be on Thursday night, as they host the Samford Bulldogs at 6:30 PM. The Iowa men will be back on Friday, as they host the Kangaroos of University of Missouri-Kansas City at 7 PM.
