The Drake Bulldogs men’s basketball team opened its regular season on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Kohawks of Coe College at the Knapp Center. It was the 6th all-time meeting between the two schools, which Drake took by a final score of 87-61.
Drake was led in scoring by Tremell Murphy and freshman Tucker DeVries, who both contributed 14 points, and both knocked down a pair of three-pointers. DJ Wilkins and Roman Penn added 11 points, with Wilkins knocking down 3, three-pointers, and forward Darnell Brodie contributed 9 points. The Bulldogs shot 12-of-23 from three-point land on Tuesday night.
Coe College was led in scoring by Max Lampe, who came off the bench and scored a game-high 15 points. Starters Cael Schmitt and Jarad Kruse added 13 points and 10 points, respectively. The Kohawks would only shoot 6-of-17 from three on Tuesday night.
Next action for Drake will be on Sunday, as they host the South Dakota Coyotes at the Knapp Center, tipoff is scheduled for 2 PM.
