The South Hamilton Hawks boys basketball team enters the 2021-22 basketball season off their 5th consecutive 15+ win season, as the Hawks finished the 2020-21 season 15-7, with a district semifinal loss to South Central Calhoun.
The Hawks lose their top 3 scorers from their 2020-21 squad, as Carter Hewitt, Freddie Lewis and Clayton Ubben all departed as seniors, Hewitt and Ubben were also 1 and 3 in rebounding, while Lewis and Kyler Hodnefield were the top two assisters for South Hamilton as well.
Returning for South Hamilton include key contributors in seniors Austin Busch and Tycin Barkema, who both averaged over 5 points per game a season ago, as Barkema was the only qualifying shooter to shoot above 30% from three in 2020-21. Landon Skartvedt will also move into a much larger role as a sophomore after starting 7 games as a sophomore.
South Hamilton will look to battle with top of the heap in the Heart of Iowa, as the Hawks finished 3rd behind conference champion Roland-Story and conference runners-up Nevada in 2020-21. The Hawks open their season with the team who ended it a season ago, the South Central Calhoun Titans, in Jewell on November 30th.
