The Iowa Hawkeyes basketball teams will host a rare doubleheader at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Tuesday night, as the Iowa women will face off with the New Hampshire Wildcats at 6 PM, while the Iowa men will take on the Longwood Lancers at 9 PM.
The Iowa women dominated in their exhibition game against Truman State last Tuesday by a score of 102-32. It was a game that saw Caitlin Clark flirt with a triple-double, with a final stat-line of 25 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes also return All-Big Ten performers in McKenna Warnock and Monika Czinano, as well as add some welcomed newcomers in freshman Addison O’Grady and Iowa State-transfer Kylie Feuerbach.
New Hampshire returns all 5 starters from their 2020-21 team, a squad that finished 5-15, with all 5 wins coming in the American East Conference. Amanda Torres will lead the charge for the Wildcats, as she averaged 12 points per game, and just under 2.5 steals per game a season ago.
As for the Iowa men, they too dominated their exhibition matchup against Slippery Rock by a final of 99-47. Patrick McCaffery and Keegan Murray were the top scorers for Iowa, as the two combined for 35 points and 13 rebounds in the dominating win. Freshman Payton Sandfort also impressed in his first game as a Hawkeye, scoring 12 points off of 5 made baskets, including a pair of 3 pointers.
Longwood enters Tuesday’s game off of a 5th place finish in the Big South Northern Division in 2020-21, a season that also included a trip to the College Basketball Invitational Tournament. The Lancers, picked to finish 2nd in the Northern Division in ’21-22, return a pair of double-digit scorers, as DeShaun Wade and Justin Hill averaged 11.2 points and 11 points per game a season ago.
