Iowa women’s basketball opens season against Truman State on Thursday

The Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball team, ranked preseason #9 in the AP Poll, open their 2021-22 season with an exhibition against the Bulldogs of Truman State. Truman State is members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference in the Division II ranks.

Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes are fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance last season, where they fell to 1-seed UConn. Iowa will be lead by sophomore point guard Caitlin Clark, who has thrown her hat into the conversation of the best player in the country. Clark averaged 26.6 points per game as a freshman, with 7 assists and just under 6 rebounds. Iowa also returns center Monika Czinano and forward McKenna Warnock, both of whom averaged double-digit points per game in 2020.

Truman State finished the 2020-21 season with a 17-5 record, while finishing the conference slate with a 15-3 record. The Bulldogs return 3 of 5 starters from 2020, in guards Hannah Belanger and Katey Klucking, and forward Ellie Weltha.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.
