The Southfork Watershed Alliance is hosting their annual Water Quality Forum on November 18th with an emphasis on strip-till and no-till practices. The public is invited to come out to the Ellsworth Community College Ag Center for the free event to hear from Iowa Secretary of Ag, Mike Naig; a panel of local farmers with strip-till and no-till experience including Glen Hodnefield, Chris Blome, and Landon Brown; and retired USDA-ARS-NLAE director, Dr. Jerry Hatfield. Dr. Hatfield’s career has been dedicated to research revolving around helping producers increase their production efficiency, increase soil health, and develop resilience to weather and climate variation. Much of the water quality research done in the South Fork of the Iowa River watershed has been under his guidance.
Come early to check out the Strip Tillage & Nutrient Banding Trade Show beginning at 4:45 p.m.
The Southfork Watershed Alliance has been working in central Iowa for over 20 years to improve the water quality in the South Fork of the Iowa River and its tributaries. The volunteer group is made up of farmers and local citizens who work together to promote research, education, and the implementation of conservation practices related to water quality. Minimizing tillage is a proven way to keep valuable nutrients in the soil and out of the water, and the group is excited to hear from the local experts about how strip-till and no-till management can best be utilized in the watershed.
Join us at the ECC Ag Center, 709 Ellsworth Ave, Iowa Falls, for an evening of networking and education beginning with the trade show at 4:45, registration at 5:00 and speakers beginning at 6:00.
