Voters in towns across Hamilton County Tuesday elected their candidates to serve on their city councils and school boards. In Webster City all three incumbent members of the city council were re-elected to serve for another four year term beginning in January. In the unofficial returns from the Hamilton County auditor’s office. John Hawkins received 597 votes, Logan Welch with 593 and Matt McKinney with 557 votes. Challenger Corrie Mork received 388 votes from Webster City voters.
Dan Asklund was unopposed for Fuller Hall trustee as he received 748 votes. Carol Yanda was unopposed for Kendall Young Library board trustee with 765 votes on Tuesday.
In the other contested city races,voters in Ellsworth selected a write in candidate for mayor as the write in candidate received 38 votes. Ellsworth mayoral candidate Dolorus Yager received 36 votes. For the two seats on the Ellsworth city council,both Marty Jensen and Steven L. Gelder received 51 votes. LaDana Sogard received 40 votes from Ellsworth voters.
In Jewell, there was a contested race for the three city council seats with four candidates on the ballot. The three winners were Loyal Winborn with 136 votes, Aaron Boor with 130 votes and Chris Gunderson with 112 votes. Another candidate Kenneth Outzen received 101 votes. Leo Reiter was unopposed for mayor of Jewell with 135 votes.
In Kamrar there were seven names on the ballot for the three city council seats on Tuesday. The three top vote getters included Gerald Huisman with 35 votes, Greg Philbrook with 31 votes and Scott Nieman with 24 votes. The other Kamrar council candidates on the ballot included Dustin Flatebo with 13 votes, Tanner Tempel with 12 votes, Cody Range with six votes and Gunther Range with five votes.
In the Stratford city council election, Larry Runyan was unopposed for mayor with 49 votes. Chase Haman received 51 votes for city council at large by the voters. The two candidates for the two vacancy at large council seats include Howard Buie with 40 votes and Jim Mead with 46 votes.
The other city council races in Hamilton County were all uncontested. In Blairsburg,Troy Hassebrock was unopposed for mayor and both Craig Jeffers and Rodney Harris were elected to the two seats on the Blairsburg city council. Greg Wright was unopposed for mayor of Randall and the three winners on the Randall city council were Steven Moore, Bonnie Brown and Susan McSparin.
In Stanhope, Harold Hove was unopposed for another term as mayor. Terry Painton and Shaunna Zanker were elected to their two seats on the Stanhope city council. Jessica Hiemstra was unopposed for mayor in Williams with Richard Kohl, Shannon Swedeen and Dennis Frayne all unopposed on the Williams city council
In the school board elections, Dave Stoakes was the winner in the director at large seat in the Webster City school district. Stoakes garnered 693 votes with Cindy Im with 377 votes. Stoakes will take over the current seat of Rich Stroner who did not seek re-election. Kelsey Clarken was the winner for Webster City school director in district one with a total of 623 votes. There were 303 write in votes for Mona Everson who announced last Monday on social media her candidacy for school board. Clarken will take over for Linda Williams who is retiring. Eric Patterson was re-elected to another term as Webster City school board director in district three. Patterson received 726 votes while his challenger Denny Cornelison received 355 votes.
In South Hamilton, Tony Babcock was the winner in the district one director seat with a total of 210 votes while Karl Corbin receiving 129 votes. Jay Moline was unopposed for his South Hamilton school board seat in district 4 with 305 votes on Tuesday.
In Stratford, there was no contest for the three seats on the Stratford school board with Brianna Richardson, Stacy Iles and Carri Eide were elected to serve for the next four years.
