The Webster City Lynx volleyball team traveled east to Waverly on Thursday night, to take on the 3rd-ranked Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock in Class 4A, Region 6 semifinal action. It was the first time the two teams had faced off since 2019, which resulted in a 3-0 Waverly-Shell Rock sweep.
The night started off with the Go-Hawks dominating the first set after both teams traded points early on, as errors on offensive sets doomed the Lynx, falling 25-12. Webster City did make some noise in the 2nd set, as they were tied at 10 apiece in the set, before Waverly-Shell Rock was able to pull away with a 25-17 win. Set 3 played out similarly to the first set, with some early points traded, but the Go-Hawks dominating for a 25-13 win and a sweep of the Lynx.
Sierra Rattenborg finished the night with 10 kills, while Livia Kasch finished with 6 kills. Setter Joslin Gourley finished the night with 18 assists, while Alayna Finucan collected 15 digs in her final game with the Lynx.
The loss ended Webster City’s season, as the Lynx finished with a 21-12 overall record. Waverly-Shell Rock advances to face #15 Humboldt on Tuesday night, after Humboldt defeated Spencer, 3-2.
