After wrapping up the district title in Week 8, the Webster City Lynx look to secure higher playoff positioning in their Week 9 matchup as they take on the Monarchs of Denison-Schleswig. Friday will be the 3rd matchup all-time between the two, with the last game in 1952, resulting in a 13-12 Webster City win.
The Monarchs are lead by first-year head coach and former Iowa State safety Kamari Cotton-Moya. Denison-Schleswig’s spread attack is lead by sophomore quarterback Luke Wiebers, who is expected to return to the starting lineup after being sidelined last week due to injury. Jaxson Hildebrand presents problems as a two-way star at running back and defensive end, and receivers Jake Fink, Matthew Weltz and Trey Brotherton have been the top receiving trio for the Monarchs.
Webster City enters Friday as the Class 4A, District 1 champions, and rated 8th in the Class 4A RPI Rankings. The Lynx balanced rushing attack has seen CJ Hisler amass 657 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Jaxon Cherry has rushed for 477 yards and 8 touchdowns, with Connor Hanson has tallied 351 yards and 7 touchdowns. Quarterback Ty McKinney has thrown for 380 yards and 6 touchdowns, while rushing for 473 yards and 5 touchdowns. Keegan Hisler continues to terrorize opposing backfields, as he’s garnered 26 tackles, with 9 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks on the season.
