Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will play a 9th game in the 2021 season, as they will close out the year with a road trip south to take on the Albia Blue Demons. Friday’s meeting will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The Blue Demons currently sit with a 1-7 record as members of Class 2A, District 7, with the lone win on the season coming against Central Lee, Donnelson by a score of 54-0. Garin Grinstead leads the Blue Demons offensive attack, throwing for 906 yards and 8 touchdowns. Gage Oddo has rushed for 746 yards and 9 touchdowns, while Lance Helm has added 249 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wyatt Beckwith and Landen Simpson have been the two best Demon receivers, hauling in nearly 500 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Cowboys enter Friday looking to snap a 5-game losing streak, after opening the season 3-0. All 5 Cowboy losses came to teams who ranked in the Top 10 of Class 2A at the time. Quarterback Preston Gardner will look to surpass the 1,000 yard-passing mark on the season, while hoping to add to his rushing numbers as well. Senior receivers Jaxon Carpenter and Coady Olson will look to end their senior year’s on a high note as well.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM at Albia High School.
