Playoff Preview: South Hamilton vs. AC/GC

The South Hamilton Hawks begin their 4th postseason in 5 years with a road trip to Guthrie Center to take on the Chargers of AC/GC. AC/GC enters Friday’s game as the district runner-up in District 7 behind #1 Van Meter. Friday’s meeting is the first ever meeting between the two schools as well.

AC/GC enters with the top rushing attack in the entire state of Iowa. The Chargers 2,913 yards rushing is #1 in the entire state, and a big reason for it is the play of fullback Gavin Cornelison. Cornelison has rushed for 1,322 yards and 23 touchdowns on the season, which both rank in the top 5 of Class 1A. Tailbacks Charlie Crawford and Cayden Jensen have combined for over 1100 yards on the season, and average 9.3 yards per carry and 11.1 yards per carry, respectively. Brock Littler directs the Chargers wishbone attack, as he’s thrown for 216 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing 315 yards and 4 touchdowns.

South Hamilton enters Friday, riding high with their wishbone offense, which has excelled in the last two games. Running back Landon Skartvedt surpassed the 1,000-yard mark against Eagle Grove, and has rushed for 9 touchdowns on the season. Austin Busch has now scored 10 rushing touchdowns, with 595 yards on the ground. Tjerdan Johnson continues to grow as a sophomore quarterback, while Brent Greenfield could play a big role in disrupting the Chargers wishbone attack, defensively.

Kickoff is slated for 7 PM at Jarmin Field in Guthrie Center on Friday, Quinn Douglas will have the call for the KZWC Game of the Week.
