The Webster City Lynx traveled to Winterset over the weekend, to partake in the annual Winterset Volleyball Tournament. Teams in attendance included Chariton, Gilbert, Greene County, Red Oak, Norwalk and South Central Calhoun.
The Lynx opened the tournament with a match against Class 3A #13 Red Oak Tigers. The Tigers took Set 1 by a score of 21-13, before Webster City clawed back to take Set 2 by a score of 21-17. Both teams went blow-for-blow in Set 3, before Red Oak came out on top by a score of 21-19, to take Set 3, 2-1.
Webster City’s second matchup came against the Rams of Greene County. The Lynx made quick work of the Rams, as Jess Howard’s squad clawed out a 21-16 win in Set 1, before tearing Greene County apart in Set 2 by a score of 21-2, to earn a 2-0 sweep.
The final match of the day for the Lynx came against the host Huskies of Winterset. The Lynx took Set 1 by a score of 21-18, before Winterset came back in Set 2 and knotted things up with a 21-16 win. Set 3 was pushed into an extra rally, before Winterset was able to claim a 16-14 win and a 2-1 victory over the Lynx.
Sierra Rattenborg finished the tournament with 36 kills, while Joslin Gourley collected 64 assists. Alayna Finucan’s 2 aces against Winterset gave her the school record for aces in a career with 137.
