Webster City clinches district title with 41-6 win over Storm Lake

The Webster City Lynx had a chance to win its 6th straight district title on Friday night, and standing in their way was a depleted Storm Lake Tornadoes team. The Tornadoes, down more than 20-sum players due to injuries and illness, decided to move forward with the game on Friday.

CJ Hisler got the night started explosively for the Lynx, as he returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to put Webster City up 7-0. Later in the 1st quarter, Hisler would strike again, this time on a 67-yard touchdown run, to put the Lynx up 14-0. Jaxon Cherry would punch in a 1-yard touchdown run on the ensuing drive to put Webster City up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lynx’s offensive onslaught continued into the 2nd quarter, as Connor Hanson punched in a 2-yard touchdown run to put Webster City up 28-0. Jaxon Cherry would punch in another short touchdown, followed by a 21-yard touchdown run by Connor Hanson, to give Webster City a 41-0 halftime lead. Storm Lake would get a garbage time touchdown to give the final score of 41-6.

With the win, Webster City clinches the Class 4A, District 1 title, and a 1 seed in the Class 4A playoffs. The Lynx conclude the regular season against Denison-Schleswig on Friday night.
