Two area teams in South Hamilton and Eagle Grove will conclude the regular season against one another on Friday night. Both teams have qualified for the Class 1A Playoffs, and are meeting for the 9th time, with South Hamilton holding a 6-2 series lead, winning the last matchup 54-6 in 2019.
Eagle Grove is fresh off one of their biggest wins in recent memory, with a 38-0 shutout of Belmond-Klemme to seal their first playoff bid since 2011. The Eagles will use a bevy of running backs, lead by the fullback duo of Jake Jeske and Roberto Calles, who have combined for over 750 yards and 4 touchdowns. wingbacks Blake Morgan and Orlando Hernandez have combined for over 400 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns, as quarterback Tate Richardson directs the Eagles triple option attack.
South Hamilton defeated Manson-Northwest Webster on Friday night, 36-28, to clinch the Hawks 4th playoff appearance in 5 years. The Hawks vaunted wishbone attack is commanded by sophomore quarterback Tjerdan Johnson, who threw his first touchdown pass of the season against the Cougars on Friday. Senior fullback Austin Busch has rushed for 510 yards and 8 touchdowns in the 4 games since he has returned, while Landen Skartvedt leads the team in rushing with 834 yards and 7 touchdowns, behind a very young offensive line.
