Webster City traveled north on Friday night to face off with the 10th-ranked Spencer Tigers. The Lynx entered with a 4-2 record, and 2-0 district record, the Tigers entered with a 5-1 record, and a similar 2-0 district record. The winner would gain a clear leg up in the Class 4A, District 1 title race.
Both teams traded punts to start the game, as both defenses flexed their respective muscles for most of the first quarter. But, it would be the Lynx who broke the scoreless tie, following a 56-yard run by Jaxon Cherry, Ty McKinney barreled in from 2 yards out to put Webster City up 6-0. Webster City’s defense continued to stymie the Tigers triple option attack, as the Lynx punched in another short touchdown run from Ty McKinney to put the Lynx up 14-0 at halftime.
Neither team would score during the 3rd quarter, but Spencer would finally get on the board with Gavin Timmer returning a punt 45 yards for a touchdown to cut the score to 14-7. However, the Lynx would put the game on ice behind a CJ Hisler 48-yard touchdown run to put Webster City up for good 21-7.
Next action for Webster City will be Friday as they travel to Storm Lake to take on the winless Tornadoes in district play.
