The Webster City football team will play the biggest game of their season on Friday night, as they travel north to take on the Spencer Tigers. The winner of the game will gain a leg up in the Class 4A, District 1 title race. Webster City leads the all-time series against Spencer 8-5, with the Lynx winning last year’s meeting, 21-7.
The Tigers enter Friday’s game with a 5-1 record, and 2-0 in district play, the lone loss coming at the hands of the Spirit Lake Indians. Spencer, coached by Jim Tighe, son of long-time Webster City coach Dick Tighe, is lead by a strong rushing attack. Taron Greene, Calvin Tighe and Cadence Hofmeyer have all rushed for over 300 yards on the season, and quarterback Evan Johnson has thrown for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing for 279 yards and 2 touchdowns. Karter Petzenhauser is the Tigers star receiver, catching 9 passes for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Webster City comes into Friday’s game fresh off a homecoming win against LeMars. The Lynx rushing attack was prolific, but turnovers hampered the Lynx offense to an extent on Friday. Quarterback Ty McKinney threw back-to-back pick sixes against LeMars, but responded with resilience and poise. McKinney, along with CJ Hisler, Jaxon Cherry and Connor Hanson, are the 4 backs who have pushed the Lynx rushing attack with over 1,500 yards total on the season. Sophomore linebacker Keegan Hisler continues to dominate up front, with 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
Kickoff will be at 7:30 PM at Spencer High School, Jerry Klaver will have call of the action on 95.7 KQWC, starting at 7.
