Monday night was a special night for the Webster City volleyball team. The match was surrounded with the fundraiser for former Lynx volleyball star Katie Niggemeyer Bradley, who had recently be re-diagnosed with Hodgkins’ Lymphoma. The players and coaches donned shirts supporting Bradley’s fight against cancer, and silent and live auctions were held after the match.
The match itself played out in a 3-0 sweep of the Lynx over Algona Bishop Garrigan. The Lynx and Golden Bears duked it out in set 1, before Webster City was able to pull away for a 25-21 win. Set 2 was pure domination as the Lynx jumped ahead by as much as 20-9, before closing out a 25-13 win. Set 3 saw Bishop Garrigan hold a lead for much of the set, before mistakes took their toll on the Golden Bears, which allowed the Lynx to reclaim the lead and take a 25-22 win.
Livia Kasch lead the way offensively for the Lynx with 9 kills, Sierra Rattenborg finished with 8 kills. Joslin Gourley lead the way with 27 assists, while Alayna Finucan finished with 28 digs, and Reese Casey finished with 2 blocks.
Webster City will host Clear Lake in North Central Conference action on Thursday night.
