The Webster City Lynx welcomed in the LeMars Bulldogs to Lynx Field on Friday night in a homecoming showdown. The Lynx entered with a 3-2 record and 1-0 in district play, as did LeMars. Webster City entered Friday’s game with a 6-3 series lead over LeMars, the last meeting coming in 1985.
The night started similar to Week 5 for the Lynx, as LeMars scored on the 1st drive of the game on an 8-yard touchdown run by Elijah Dougherty to put the Bulldogs up 7-0. Webster City struck back immediately as CJ Hisler returned the ensuing kickoff 99-yards for a touchdown to give the Lynx an 8-7 lead, after the 2-point conversion. Webster City would strike again in the 1st quarter, as Jaxon Cherry punched in a 5-yard touchdown run to put the Lynx up 15-7. Ty McKinney would strike on the ground early in the 2nd quarter, bolting for a 30-yard touchdown run to put Webster City up 22-7.
Things would get interesting for the Lynx on the ensuing offensive possessions, as Ty McKinney threw back-to-back pick sixes as LeMars knotted the score at 22 all. McKinney would answer with a big play of his own, bolting for a 53-yard touchdown run after his second pick six, to put Webster City up 29-22 at halftime. The Lynx would score on the 1st drive of the 3rd quarter, as Connor Hanson punched in a 17-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 36-22. Ty McKinney would then go back to the air and find tight end JJ Moore for a 9-yard touchdown pass to put the Lynx up 43-22, before Connor Hanson punched in the Lynx final touchdown to put them 50-22. LeMars would punch in a garbage time touchdown to make the final 50-29.
Webster City will face Spencer on Friday, the winner likely gaining a leg up on the district title race in Class 4A, District 1.
