Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will look to pickup district win #1 on the season, but will have a daunting task in front of them as they welcome in the unanimous #1 team in Class 2A, Southeast Valley, to Clarion on Friday night. Southeast Valley leads the all-time series 3-0, as the two programs met for the first time in 2018.
Southeast Valley comes into Friday night as the unanimous #1 team in Class 2A, riding behind the play of quarterback Kolson Kruse. The Jaguars dual-threat quarterback has thrown for 809 yards and 8 touchdowns, while rushing for another 527 yards and 7 touchdowns. Lathe Muench also pushes the Jaguars rushing attack with another 483 yards and 9 touchdowns. Junior Eli Johnson and senior Colton Brant lead Southeast Valley’s explosive passing game. Perhaps the most talented player on the team is offensive and defensive lineman and Iowa Football commit Aaron Graves, who is as dominant as any lineman in all of Iowa this season.
The Cowboys come into Friday night following a 24-17 loss to Pocahontas Area in Pocahontas. For the 2nd week in a row, the Cowboys rushing attack was greatly limited, but Preston Gardner continued to throw the football efficiently and effectively, throwing for a pair of touchdowns against the Indians. It will be important for CGD to establish Gardner, Nevan Foss and Garrett Seaba early against a vaunted Jaguar defense.
Kickoff will come at 7 PM from Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Middle School in Clarion, Quinn Douglas will have the call for the KZWC Game of the Week on 92.9 FM and 1570 AM.
