Webster City will open up district play on Friday at Lynx Field as they host Class 4A #6 Fort Dodge Dodgers. Friday marks the first time the two schools, separated by less the 20 miles, have played on the gridiron since 1965. Fort Dodge leads the all-time series dating back to 1896, 17-3.
The Dodgers have been lead by the play of quarterback Connor Carver and running back Jon Presswood through the first half of the season. Carver is completing 62% of his passes, for 798 yards and 6 touchdowns, but 6 interceptions to boot. Presswood has amassed 540 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns, averaging 135 yards per game thus far. The Dodgers also tout an explosive receiving core lead by Javion Jondle and Bradley Vodraska.
The Lynx come into the district opener with a 2-2 record, however, their two losses came to a ranked Humboldt team and a ranked Waverly-Shell Rock team. Webster City’s offensive line took a step forward a week ago, as they bludgeoned Mason City up front for 301 yards. CJ Hisler continues to lead the way on the ground with 339 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Jaxon Cherry has 4 rushing touchdowns on the season. Quarterback Ty McKinney has yet to turn the ball over, and has thrown 4 touchdowns so far this season.
