The Webster City Lynx football team looked to right the ship after a tough loss to Class 4A #5 Waverly-Shell Rock in Week 3, as they traveled north to face Mason City in the non-district finale. Friday was only the 4th-ever meeting between the two schools.
Mason City was the first team to get on the board with a 30-yard field goal from Carson Siemons to give the Mohawks a 3-0 lead. That’s as good as it got all night for Mason City. The Lynx offense got going in the 2nd quarter, as Jaxon Cherry punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to give Webster City an 8-3 lead. On the next offensive possession, it was Connor Hanson’s turn to punch in a touchdown, as he barreled in from 2 yards out to give Webster City a 15-3 lead.
The Lynx wouldn’t let up in the 2nd half, as Ty McKinney found Devon Stoakes for a touchdown to give the Lynx a 22-3 lead. The pass was one of five McKinney would throw all night. Bob Howard’s team continued to put together numerous, methodical drives, with Jaxon Cherry punching in a 6-yard touchdown toward the end of the 3rd quarter to give the Lynx a commanding 29-3 lead. Webster City would cap the night off with a Connor Hansen 2-yard touchdown run to give the Lynx a 36-3 win.
Webster City moved to 2-2 with the win, and will host 4-0, #7 Fort Dodge in their district opener on Friday. Mason City fell to 1-3 on the season, and will open their district play with Decorah on Friday.
